The transition from the pampered Show yearling or that million dollar sale thoroughbred yearling through the breaking in and starting process is the most crucial time in a horse’s life. Everything to this point has been done with one thing in mind, rearing the yearling to achieve its fullest potential. Starting them under saddle, these juveniles are now faced with a change in life style! We, here at “NO FEAR EQUINE” education have a life time of understanding horses to offer our clients and their valuable equines.
Whether it is for the race track, the show ring or the western performance arena, we have the expertise to start your horses with the correct basis for you to continue their education with out any stress.
We believe that Horses started for any discipline need to be taken through the beginning of their performance lives with out fear but with just enough pressure for them to build their confidence. Our horses exhibit calm and quiet attitudes when finished. Our NO FEAR starting process allows the horses to go on to have long productive lives in many disciplines. Our Thoroughbred horses win races and once finished racing can go on to be sports horses BECAUSE they have the EDUCATION, the building blocks/ foundation, that is necessary, to allow them to stay calm through out their “re education” process
'NO FEAR EQUINE EDUCATION' is owned and managed by Clayton and Kim Evans on our 100 acre property “Little Bitty” amidst the Liverpool Ranges in the fertile and productive Willow Tree area of NSW. The facilities on the property consist of a 140 ft all weather arena 100x50 ft rectangle arena ,16 stables and an 40ft undercover round pen , 11 large day yards all of which are safely constructed with the horses safety in mind, and 3 stallion yards, one of which houses our resident sire "Mr Boogie Bandit", a paint cutting/reining bred stallion.
I am a third generation horseman who broke in my first horse at 10 years of age. Rodeo took my fancy as a teenager. I had success riding junior steers, and then moved up to ride bulls; however, it was on the back of a horse that I felt I belonged. I rode in my first saddle bronc event in September 1994 and broke out of novice in 1995 when I was campaigning successfully, but longing to learn more about horsemanship put me on a plane to the US in the mid-nineties. I took a position with ‘AQHA Hall of Fame’ renowned horseman, Jim Dudley of Iowa. (Reining and Western Pleasure) Jim was a freak, an incredible horseman, with great people skills and loved teaching people the correct methods in horsemanship, the things he could get horses to do in a single work were incredible. During my six months in Iowa, I also had the opportunity to haul to a number of rodeos, earning the IRCA Saddle Bronc Rookie Champion and winning/placing at some of the most famous rodeo’s here in Australia such as Mt Isa, Cloncurry, black river Townsville Kundabung Australasian championships and challenge of the champions Sydney royal.
Working trips to the USA in 1999, 2003 & 2011 saw me instilled in leading establishments to work for and with, such greats as Shane Stovell (cutting Horses) , Craig Thompson (Cutting Trainer) and Al Dunning.
in 2002 I lived in sydney training and breaking warm bloods and also working with Ingham Enterprise thoroughbred horses at the Belmont Park facility and with the Ingham’s infamous Stud Manager Peter Flynn of Woodland Stud, Denman.
Amongst my other equine pursuits where I have had the pleasure of working with top horsemen include;
- Mr Henry Davies one of the original natural horsemen(non commercialized)the founder of the method I use today.
- Rick Worthington(one of the largest thorough bred breakers in Aust. Including the hong kong jockey club contract.)
- The Man from Snowy River Spectacular conducted by the talented Heath Harris, movie horse trainer.
- Sydney royal easter show main event spectacular “gemma spirit of the outback” (riding 45 bucking horses straight over the duration of the show)
- Dave Williams breaker and cutting horse trainer(the guy I credit all my riding skills and soft hands too and a big percentage of my horsemanship)
- John L Dublin Cutting Horses consistently the leading trainer in Montana.
- Invitation to the “crow indian reservation horsemanship camp” to demonstrate our no fear method.
- A.D. Morse Sprint Racing USA
- Craig Thompson Texas Cutting Horses.
Time spent in Texas working for the NCHA Open Futurity Champion Craig Thompson was a great learning curve. Thompson appreciated my skills as soon as he saw me ride a young horse for him. As I did his training methods very soft very considerate and constantly securing the horse and repeating the process, I was very privileged and honored when Craig entrusted me to starting some of his high quality very expensive cutting horses. Sadly when my Visa ran out, I headed home once more.
Being a very enthusiastic impressionable young man, I felt honoured to have the opportunity to work with these outstanding horsemen, their time spent on me is very much treasured and appreciated. I felt like a big sponge soaking up knowledge and skills from each of them and piecing together what would turn out to best suit my situation. This formed my path with horses.
In 2004 I established ‘NO FEAR EQUINE EDUCATION’ run with my wife Kim, (an equally accomplished horse woman winning in the hack show ring all over N.S.W). Our’s is a “horse mad” family, our children, Brittany 13, Beau 8 and Tyler 2 all ride, love horses and are happily hands on around the barn. Tyler, at 2 years young, is a delight to see bouncing along side my horse upon his own pony(sinba also started the No Fear way originally for Beau when he was 2) rising to the trot! such an accomplishment at this age, adding meaning to, “born in the saddle”, much the same as I was.
Resident breaker/ starter at the internationally renowned Arrowfield Stud, a multi-million dollar facility known prolifically for breeding some of the best thoroughbreds in the southern Hemisphere. I prepare some of the most expensive and sought-after horse-flesh in the nation for their future training.
At home at “Little Bitty”, just up the road, I work on a number of Quarter Horses and Paints training for western performance events including, Western Pleasure, Cutting , Reining and stock man challenges. These valuable horses come from leading studs such as Coronation Park Stud to undergo training on the “NO FEAR EQUINE EDUCATION” program resulting in many of them going on to be futurity and aged event champions for their talented trainers/owners.
‘NO FEAR EDUCATION’ is a product created. ‘NO FEAR EDUCATION’ has been evolved from MY hands-on in the handling, breaking and education process of thousands of horses for over twenty years. With extensive research and from experience, I have personally scrutinized two decades of horse-handling/ breaking methodology to come up with, not only a program that I believe is best for starting young horses, but a program I have complete faith in to get the best result every time. My ‘NO FEAR EDUCATION’ program bases success on ideas and methods from the outstanding professional horsemen I have had the privilege to learn from.
We have complete trust in our program. We know the importance of understanding a horse’s character and nature, allowing that to determine the way we go about handling and starting each horse. Our No Fear program eliminates fear, builds confidence in the animal, developed with just the right amount of pressure, developing an ask to encourage and receive from the horse, resulting in a mentally broke result. This pupil is then ready for the demands of a training program in any discipline.
Here at “Little Bitty” we love to include owners and trainers in the preparation of these horses for their future. Our No Fear program is tailored to suit the individual needs of each horse, the owner and any future trainer. Once seen, you will get an insight into the understanding, so you know just what is needed to continue with your horse from his correct start.
Here we have a very strong work ethic; I am constantly told by my wife that I am a workaholic. There is no clock that say’s time out, or go home!
A busy man yes, but I enjoy every minute of this life as a professional horseman/ trainer.
You’re very welcome to call us to discuss your plan for your horse and we will develop him to suit your needs.
